Description

A Glint of Light on Broken Glass

A poetic, trance-like short film by Andrea Hackl, Moon Light is an ode to primal forces, to water and to the sacred feminine. It dives through shadow to find light and evokes their eternal dance, which some legends describe as the dance that created the universe.

“For each of us as women, there is a dark place within, where hidden and growing our true spirit rises… Within these deep places, each one of us holds an incredible reserve of creativity and power.” — Audre Lorde

This work was created during an artistic residency at the Cidadela Art District in Cascais, Portugal, with the support of Paulo Arraiano. The music was composed by Ivan Shopov and contributes to the film’s meditative and immersive atmosphere.

Programmer’s Notes – Blas Payri

Andrea Hackl proposes a work of pure videodance with Moon Light, A Glint of Light on Broken Glass : a minimalist, almost ascetic setting where the performer faces the camera alone. The film is shot in high-contrast black and white, with side lighting that turns the body into a moving silhouette and line. The figure appears and disappears in the light, alternating between presence and absence, between recognition and abstraction.

Hackl’s movement vocabulary is precise and visceral. Her body twists, turns, and contorts within a space defined by a steady light that shapes her into a continuous transformation. Through postproduction layering and subtle manipulation of speed, the dance gains a rhythmic tension that merges the energy of physical movement with the sculpting of time through editing.
