What is identity but a story. This is my self-story, a lying fragment of someone who could be me, who playing at being me destroys me and who, by destroying me, constitutes me. My self-portrait is a poetic journey through my imagination. A narrative that appeals to the visual and literary metaphor looking for an indirect approach to my identity construction. What does the question about my own name and my status as a woman return to me?

The answer has the shape of a creature.

Director Biography – Muriel Sago

She is an actress, director and creator of digital content; She graduated in Acting and Theater Direction from the National University of the Arts. In 2022 she represented Argentina in the CELAC Film Week, she won the Hack Mafiz Málaga contest, the 1st Artscloud Digital Artists Award and the Second ITAÚ Prize for digital short stories. In 2023 she was chosen to participate in the 18th edition of the Talents BA in collaboration with the Berlin Film Festival. Her audiovisual works have been part of the Art in Metaverse exhibition in Seoul, the Museum of Modern Art in Medellín, Western Michigan University, the UAMéx Art Biennial, and urban video mapping events around the world.

Director Statement

My self-portrait was the result of an audiovisual hackathon organized by the Malaga Film Festival in 2021. This event called Hack Mafiz invited 198 Ibero-American filmmakers to contest, and the slogan of the first challenge consisted of making a 60 ” self-portrait in within three weeks. This was my result and with this work I won the contest thanks to which I travel to Spain next year.
Self-portrait is a poetic journey through my imagination. A narrative that appeals to the visual and literary metaphor looking for an indirect approach to my identity construction. Sound and plastic text in a minimalist dance towards subjectivity.
